Mariinsky TheatreSt Petersburg · 2001–2009

Her years at the Mariinsky Theatre were a key stage in Ekaterina’s professional development. High artistic and technical standards, daily work and a rich repertoire shaped her discipline as a performer, her independence and her sense of responsibility on stage.

Starting in the corps de ballet, Ekaterina gradually broadened her range, mastering classical ballets, neoclassical works and contemporary choreography. The works of George Balanchine and William Forsythe were especially important. It was in this choreography that she was able to fully reveal her individuality as a performer — a turning point in her Mariinsky career that opened the way to new solo roles.

Bayerisches StaatsballettMunich · 2009–2016

In 2009 Ekaterina Petina joined the Bavarian State Ballet as a coryphée. Within four years she rose to Principal Dancer, receiving the appointment in 2013.

The Munich years were marked by a varied repertoire and critical acclaim. Ekaterina danced leading roles in classical, neoclassical and contemporary productions while continuing to develop her artistry.

Her work with John Neumeier held a special place: his ballets demanded not only great technical skill but also a deep understanding of musical dramaturgy, character psychology and stage expressiveness. During this period she also worked with William Forsythe and Russell Maliphant and performed works by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins.

Staatsballett BerlinBerlin · 2016–2017

In the 2016–2017 season Ekaterina continued her career with Staatsballett Berlin, broadening her experience of different choreographic styles.

It was in Berlin that she first performed choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot, in Altro Canto. This experience influenced her decision to join Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo in 2017.

★ In 2013 Ekaterina was nominated for the international Benois de la Danse prize for her performance in Russell Maliphant’s Broken Fall.

Les Ballets de Monte-CarloMonte-Carlo · 2017–2025

In 2017 Ekaterina joined Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo under the artistic direction of Jean-Christophe Maillot, continuing her career as a Principal Dancer.

Working with Maillot’s choreography opened up new possibilities for artistic growth. His distinctive language, combining classical technique, contemporary movement and theatrical dramaturgy, required a different approach to movement, character interpretation and stage expressiveness.

During this period Ekaterina danced leading roles in the company’s repertoire and took part in numerous international tours, presenting the art of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo on stages around the world.
